The ridged eel〔(Common names for ''Neoconger mucronatus'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 (''Neoconger mucronatus'') is an eel in the family Moringuidae (spaghetti/worm eels).〔(''Neoconger mucronatus'' ) at www.fishbase.org.〕 It was described by Charles Frédéric Girard in 1858.〔Girard, C. F., 1858 (1813 ) ''Notes upon various new genera and new species of fishes, in the museum of the Smithsonian Institution, and collected in connection with the United States and Mexican boundary survey: Major William Emory, Commissioner.'' Proceedings of the Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia v. 10: 167-171.〕 It is a subtropical, marine eel known from the western Atlantic Ocean, including the northwestern Gulf of Mexico, Cuba, and northern South America. The larvae have been found ranging from the Straits of Florida to Brazil. It typically dwells at a depth range of 13-180 m, and inhabits offshore banks. Males can reach a maximum total length of 30 cm.〔 ==References==
